Bon Bon Pond Birth Announcement

Congratulations to our resident Canada Geese, William and Leona, who welcomed five goslings into the world yesterday--
MY birthday!
Thanks!!!
More to celebrate!

Introducing: The Magnolia Warbler

Bon Bon Pond is pleased to welcome some lovely first-time visitors.  A couple weeks ago, a large flock of our spring friends, the Yellow-rumped Warblers, moved in and brought with them  some gorgeous yellow and black-striped friends.  I had no idea what these attractive avians were and thus consulted my bible, Stan Tekiela’s Birds of Minnesota, but a perusal of all the pages turned up no clue.  ???

It was time to turn to the experts.  Stan has an open group at Facebook whose members are some of the most knowledgeable experts in the field.  Within minutes of posting pictures, I had my answer:  the Magnolia Warbler.

Mostly found across the northern parts of Canada—such  as in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec—these brightly-colored birds are just passing thru Minnesota on their way to their northern nesting grounds.

Known as primarily insect-eaters, they love jelly and will spend long periods of time at the cups, which allows for some great picture-taking and ogling opportunities!  Welcome Friends!
