I Heart Firewood

Another winter.       Another woodpile. 2017-2018’s stash may not be as impressive in size as year’s past, but it’s significant for another reason.  For the first time, all the lumber is homegrown, harvested, cut and split at Bon Bon Acres.  The entire year we’ve been skidding downed trees and picking up branches.

The little stuff is time-consuming to both collect and stuff in the firebox, but it burns and keeps us toasty warm.  While the process has certainly been a lot of work playing lumberjack is both fun and rewarding. Plus, there's the satisfaction that comes from going off the grid.

P. S.  Special thanks are due our friend, Jeff, for all his hard work on behalf of this effort.

Pine Point Pond

Washington County Parks was busy in late autumn making improvements to its lovely Pine Point Pond property.  The work consisted of making horse and hiking trails around the water.  This pond is the sister to Bon Bon Pond (seen beyond the road).  Before the intervention of man in the early 1900s, the ponds—along with the third Baird Pond, which is located to the north of the railroad tracks—comprised one beautiful small lake.

Stillwater's Aiple Estate

Last week I posted the video from our bike club’s recent visit to the former Aiple estate, which was purchased by the city of Stillwater with the goal of turning the property into a park.

The development plans include launch areas for non-motorized watercraft.  It’s an incredible spot and should make a beautiful public respite as well as a fine addition to the city’s park system.
