he
resident geese of Bon Bon Pond are restless and looking forward to new flight
feathers, which should be growing in shortly.
Until then, they’re just hanging out in the backyard, paddling around in
the water or—much to my chagrin—congregating in the middle of the filthy old cow path. Stay safe, dear friends, and get off the
road!!
Each
year around this time, Bon Bon Acres is turned upside down. Perhaps nothing is as adorable as baby
raccoons yet they are the world’s greatest mischief-makers. Not only will they drain each and every bird
feeder but they will destroy them too. At
this point in the summer—i.e. their “childhood” I must take every feeder down
and place them all in the garage overnight.
The birds—needless to say—are not happy with this plan but I have no
other alternative. The geese and ducks
aren’t pleased either as this family of thieves will gobble up their corn in
broad daylight. They have a one-track
mind: food. No amount of shooing and screeching from me
makes any difference. Typical children,
they know they can just wear me down.

Tuesday's outdoor work gave me the opportunity to spend some time with Humphrey, the new and very bashful resident woodchuck. And, of course, my beloved best friends, the turkeys are never far from my side when I'm outside working. I am so honored to have earned their trust and companionship. |

Beyond the overgrowth is the culvert that connects Bon Bon
Pond to Baird Pond. Originally, this was all one lake--before the
destructive hand of man.
