Clap Hands, Here's Chuckie

You never know who is going to show up at Goose Station Central.  Today, it was Chuckie, Bon Bon Acres’ resident groundhog.  The little guy has come a long way over the past three months when it comes to his interactions with humans.  At the start of the summer, he would only come down as far as the apple tree in the backyard but I am slowly winning his trust.

Chuckie has some big shoes to fill.  A few years back, we had a woodchuck here I named “Sunny” who was nearly tame.  I loved her so much.  She had babies once and the entire family of five lived under the gazebo for one summer.  She was an extraordinary creature as she was so friendly.  The last time we saw here was when she went under the barn for her winter torpor.  I never saw her again.  😢

As groundhogs only live to around the age of six, I would wager Chuckie is her grandson.
